Almada Street 573
During the 19th and 20th centuries, Rua do Almada became known as the "hardware street," concentrating numerous hardware stores, locksmiths, tool shops, locksmiths, and construction material suppliers. It was the go-to place for those seeking parts and tools for domestic and industrial repairs.
Its creation marked an important moment in the city's history, as it was the first major street built outside the Fernandine Walls, allowing Porto to expand northward and improve connections to the roads of Braga and Guimarães. Later, Rua do Almada became known as "Rua das Ferragens" (Hardware Street) due to the high concentration of hardware, tool, and construction material stores. It is precisely this historical identity that Rebite intends to honor and immortalize, preserving the memory of a street that marked generations of merchants and Porto Alegre residents.
